David Gogo Rockin’ the Blues
with special guest David Gogo
Rock music is so deeply rooted in the blues. Therefore, to be a good rock guitarist, players need a solid understanding of the blues. The most common progression in music (I, IV, V) is not only the blues progression, but also the basis for countless rock tunes. Artists such as Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Santana, Allman Brothers, Slash, AC/DC, and many other ’classic rock’ artists use blues as the foundation for their music. This seminar is designed for players who love the raw energy, feel, and power of Blues music from Delta and Chicago to Texas and electrifying blues/rock sounds. The course will demonstrate how the music of blues legends from Robert Johnson to Muddy Waters and from BB King to Buddy Guy assisted rock greats such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Joe Perry, and even Edward Van Halen to develop their unique styles. Learn more blues vocabulary, how to build your solos, and discover ways to spice up or even hide a I, IV,V progression. Topics covered include various blues and rock progressions, chord voicings, various comping patterns, turnarounds, phrasing, scale and arpeggio usage, double stops, and how to turn some standard blues phrases into some screaming rock licks. Students will also learn how to improve their bending, vibrato, sliding, and legato techniques. There will be plenty of playing and jamming in this course. Although this course is open to all students, it is recommended that the student have a minimum of 6 months playing experience for this course.
